A Vision for Health

The vision for Plains Road is consistent with the walkable, bikeable, and transit-supportive concepts promoted by the Region of Halton.

A walkable, bikeable, and transit supportive community is well-designed and compact. It allows people to walk and bike to school, work, stores, parks, restaurants, and other services. And it allows people to take transit to and from neighbouring communities.

Studies show that the way we build our communities benefits our health and well-being in the following ways:

Creating Community

We can reduce depression and improve mental health by designing our communities in ways that encourage people to gather, connect, and celebrate in parks, public squares, restaurants, cafes, and shops.

Being Active and Healthy

We can reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and stroke by being more active every day, and enjoying walking, biking and active transportation to get from one place to another.

Breathing Clean Air (Air Quality videos)
We can reduce air pollution and greenhouse gasses by building homes, services, schools and jobs close enough together so that people can walk, bike, or use transit instead of relying on the car.

Improving Safety

We can reduce injury by designing our streets so they are convenient for all road users: drivers, transit users, cyclists, and pedestrians regardless of age or ability.
