September 22, 2017 in Frontpage, Heritage, Success Stories - Current by Heather Mace

Another small step has been taken to improve the Plains Road corridor. This new “wrap-around” was recently completed on the utility box at the corner of St. Matthew’s Avenue and Plains. It hosts a variety of photos of old Aldershot. This wrap-around is just the latest in a series sponsored by the Aldershot Community Honour Roll. Other wrap-arounds can be found at the Falcon, King and Francis Road intersections.

This annual celebration of our heritage will be held on Saturday, October 1st from 10 am to 4 pm. This includes the Union Burying Ground (1001 Plains Road East), founded in 1848 by 10 United Empire Loyalist families important to the early growth and prosperity of Nelson Township and the Village of Wellington Square, There are, however, graves that date back to 1770. Today, their descendants manage and maintain the grounds.Greenwood Cemetery and the Union Burying Grounds.  For more information go to: www.burlington.ca/doorsopen.
