Dressing Up Plains Road

September 22, 2017 in Frontpage, Heritage, Success Stories - Current by Heather Mace

Another small step has been taken to improve the Plains Road corridor. This new “wrap-around” was recently completed on the utility box at the corner of St. Matthew’s Avenue and Plains. It hosts a variety of photos of old Aldershot. This wrap-around is just the latest in a series sponsored by the Aldershot Community Honour Roll. Other wrap-arounds can be found at the Falcon, King and Francis Road intersections.

More Good News at Bolus

September 22, 2017 in Aldershot's Vision, Frontpage, Success Stories - Current by Heather Mace

At last weekend’s Alderfest festival at Bolus Gardens, an announcement was made that plans
are in the works to add a small interactive water feature and fountain to the park. These additional features will be constructed in time for summer 2018 and are the result of a grant from the Patrick J. McNally Charitable Foundation. This great news follows the recent KaBOOM! project which upgraded the playground equipment in the same Warwick Surrey neighbourhood park.

Update on Plains Road Construction

August 20, 2016 in Aldershot's Vision, Infrastructure, Newsletter, Success Stories - Current by Heather Mace

We fully appreciate that drivers are getting weary of the construction on Plains Road. The good news is that the majority of the work will be completed by the end of October. The work involves watermain rehabilitation from Shadeland to Kingsway, curb repairs and replacement, as well as resurfacing. The section from King to Francis includes enhanced bike lanes, streetscaping and boulevard tree planning.

Marking Our History

Have you noticed the latest “wrap-around” on Plains Road? It’s on the south side of Plains at Howard Road, in front of the Drewlo apartment buildings. The wrap-around covers a utility box with historic photographs from west Aldershot. This is part of a program supported by the Aldershot Community Honour Roll and aims at celebrating Aldershot’s history while improving the look of our main street. Other wrap-arounds may be seen at Shadeland, King and Francis Roads. Special thanks to David Craig for his photos  and art work.

New Pedestrian Area

July 18, 2016 in Success Stories - Current by Heather Mace

There is an attractive new pedestrian area on the north east corner of Plains and Waterdown Road. This wonderful new amenity will serve as a resting spot for pedestrians and cyclists at this increasingly busy intersection. The pedestrian plaza is part of the City’s plan to make neighbourhoods more livable and walkable. In this case, the project would not have been possible without a major financial contribution from the Aldershot Business Improvement Area. Thanks to the B.I.A. Board and its membership.
